The Grange Garden Room

An extra room for the whole family to relax

An extra room for the whole family to relax

Our clients, Gemma and James, on The Grange, commissioned us to install a Garden Room at the end of their garden. Their garden area is quite compact so it was important to deliver some extra indoor space without impeding too much on their garden. We had several meetings prior to commencement of the project to discuss their options, needs and vision. Once we were all clear on that vision we were in a position to begin the work.

Build

We like to work as efficiently as possible when building a Garden Room and this is evident from the start with our floor construction. See our Projects page for full construction details. The base was constructed using a threaded rod and concrete pile system. Some of the subfloor frame was positioned on an existing stone patio. In conjunction with the rods we used adjustable fee to fix to the patio to establish the level of the subfloor. The floor frame was manufactured from 75 mm x 100 mm treated timber and the wall frame structure was manufactured using 45 mm x 95 mm treated timber. The roof was manufactured using 125 mm x 45 mm treated timber.

External finish

On the back and side elevations we fitted anthracite grey James Hardieplank cladding and on the front elevation we fitted Western red cedar.

James and Gemma wanted to maximise as much natural light as possible so we incorporated a set of bifold doors to the front elevation.

Anthracite grey fascia and soffit boards were fitted to finish the roof line and match the doors to compliment the red cedar further still.

We installed a 50 litre water butt to carry away rain water from the roof. This also serves as an efficient means to water the garden plants.

Landscape

After the Garden Room was constructed Gemma and James asked us to landscape part of their existing garden to create a sufficient patio for outdoor entertaining and relaxing. The grey slate compliments the anthracite grey accents on the Garden Room to bring together a beautiful indoor/outdoor area for the whole family to enjoy.

Electrics

The Grange has 6 double sockets as well as a 2 kw heater.

Internally we installed 6 ceiling downlights and externally we installed 4 downlights in the soffit. All electrics in our Garden Rooms are installed by a qualified and certified electrician.

Flooring

We discussed flooring options and Gemma and James chose an oak laminate.

Laminate is a very practical choice of flooring for a Garden Room due to its durability to be hardwearing.

Lastly, we fitted the skirting board and decorated accordingly to complete.

We are beyond delighted with the garden room Pete has built for us and we could not recommend him highly enough. He is a consummate professional, tireless worker and takes the utmost pride in his work. His attention to detail is exceptional and on top of all of this, he’s a throughly nice chap to have around. We would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

Reliable builder and very happy with our garden room. Very easy to deal with throughout the process, great finish and complete on time/on budget. Would recommend.
