The Langley is the largest Garden Room we’ve built so far. With all that floor space it offers a plethora of options and uses. We were tasked to build this as a home office but there is also a separate seating area which accommodates a stylish sofa that can also convert to a bed. Benefiting from a separate W.C. and shower room, The Langley really is a flexible multi-use Garden Room.
Our client, Sheryl, on The Langley, was keen to adapt part of her garden to accommodate a garden office. We had several meetings prior to commencement of the project to discuss her options, needs, and vision. Once we were clear on that vision we were in a position to begin the work.
First of all, we removed a large existing shed and cut back the overgrown bushes and brambles to clear the area. We erected a new fence to re-establish a definite boundary line. We dug a trench from this area to lay a waste pipe to connect to the main soil waste pipe at the front of the property. We also laid the water supply pipe, armoured electric cable and armoured internet cable in this trench. We backfilled the trench and made good the ground
When this was done we could commence work on the build. See Projects page for full construction description.
On the elevations adjacent to the new fencing we fitted anthracite grey James Hardieplank cladding and on the elevations facing the garden we fitted western red cedar timber cladding. Sheryl wanted lots of natural light to enter the building so we fitted a set of tri-fold doors and separate bi-fold doors to 2 of the front elevations. We also fitted some slim windows to the other 2 garden-facing elevations. Anthracite grey fascia and soffit boards were fitted to finish the roof line to match the doors and windows.
The Langley has a host of double sockets. It has three 2 kW heaters in the main area as well as an electric towel rail in the shower room. Internally we installed ceiling downlights, wall lights, and under-cupboard lighting. Externally we installed downlights in the soffit as well as 2 stylish wall lights.
The shower room has a toilet, hand basin, and electric shower.
Sheryl chose an oak laminate. Laminate is a very practical choice of flooring for a Garden Room due to its durable and hard-wearing properties.
Sheryl wanted some fitted office cupboards and also an area for the printer to sit. We adapted some units to accommodate her request.
I am absolutely delighted with my garden room, designed and built by PMG Garden Rooms. In fact, it exceeded my expectations in many ways. I had quite a complex build that needed customisation… It included an L-shape to fit into the corner of my garden and, as I was having it built for the primary purpose of a self-contained home office, I also wanted a toilet. Pete completed everything to an exceptional standard, including all the flooring, decorating and the installation of the wifi router. It has made my work/life balance so much better and I absolutely love it. I can’t recommend Pete and his high-quality craftsmanship enough.
A self-sufficient workspace equipped with reliable internet signal, W.C. and lots of natural light with the option for guests to stay.
A fully functioning home office with flexibility to accommodate occasional guests.
